Peterson Middle School's Science Club Web Page

Welcome to the Science Club's Web page. We will attempt to keep this current with news about what is happening in the Science Club through the year. Look here for information about the past competition results, the current project, and general information.

The Science Club meets in E-4 (Ms. Teng's room) at 2:45-3:30PM on most Mondays that school is in session.

October 28 -- Bridge Competition Results
The Science Club has been working on building a bridge from popsicle sticks. Now the bridge needs to span 23 inches, but the sticks are only 4-1/2 inches long, so clearly we need to do some work. The goal is to support fifty pounds, which we've never done before. Trusses (think rail road bridges) are the answers. So this year we focused on making trusses, and using triangles, because they are strong. In third place, supporting 55 pounds, was Ham Industries. Congratulations to Ethan, Alon, Shuma, Hamza, and Eashan. The Skittles team slipped in to second place by supporting 63 pounds. Way to go Owen and Alan. Showing their strength at 72 pounds, the Golden Gators claimed first place. Ishaan, Rajesh, Sahith, and Saharsh led the way. All three teams got over 50 pounds -- and no team had done that before. Must be something about trusses.
